Lena Cohen

Milwaukee native Lena Cohen died of congestive heart failure in San Antonio, Texas, on April 26. She was 91.

A graduate of Milwaukee Technical School, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Ziegler Candy Company prior to her marriage to Hyman Cohen, who died in 2005.
Later in life, she worked for the Milwaukee County Park System, according to her family.

From 1987 until 2004, she lived in Century Village, Boca Raton, Fla., where she was active in community affairs. She moved to San Antonio in 2004.

She especially enjoyed family and friends, travel and baking. “She was a truly wonderful person who was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her,” her family said.

She is survived by sons Norman (Barbara) Cohen, M.D., of Bayside and Gerald (Ruth) Cohen of Portland, Ore.; daughter Ellen (David) Ziger of San Antonio; sisters Anne Wilzig and Sophie Wagner, both of Bayside; and seven grandchildren.

Rabbi Leonardo Bitran officiated at funeral services in San Antonio on April 27. Burial was in Agudas Achim Cemetery, San Antonio.

Memorials to the American Heart Association or Congregation Shalom would be appreciated by the family.
