Longtime Milwaukeean Joseph Pass, recently of Glendale, died of heart failure Nov. 26 at age 95.
Born in Montreal, Canada, he moved to Milwaukee in 1945. He was well known in Milwaukee for his kosher food distributorship, which sold wholesale food products to major grocery chains, restaurants and delicatessens throughout Wisconsin, according to his daughter Doreen (Norman) Marcus of Bayside.
He also served the public at three retail stores, she said.
“He retired in the early 1970s and stayed active until the last week of his life,” Marcus said.
He was a member of Congregation Shalom, Temple Menorah and Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue. For 50 years, he was also a member of Milwaukee-Harmony Lodge No. 261 F. & A.M. Wisconsin Scottish Rite Bodies and Tripoli Temple.
Marcus also said, “Joe had a heart of gold, always giving of himself and always caring for others. He taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the true meaning of respect, dignity, caring and, above all, the importance of love and family.”
He was preceded in death by wife Ethel (nee Gross) in 1987. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a son, Stephen (Laurie) Pass of Mequon; sister Dorothy Oberfeld of Chicago; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at graveside services in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery on Nov. 28.
Memorials to Congregation Shalom would be appreciated by the family.
