Jeanne M. Werner, nee Engle, of Fox Point, died May 17 at the age of 80. The cause of death was ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Born in Pewaukee, she graduated from Milwaukee’s Washington High School in 1942. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Wisconsin in 1946.
She was a member of Congregation Shalom and Women’s American ORT. In addition, she volunteered as a docent at the Milwaukee Public Museum for 25 years and at Maple Dale and Donges Bay Schools for almost 30 years, according to her daughter, Diane (Ellis) Rudman of Manhasset Hills, N.Y. “Her interests allowed her to work with children which were her special love,” her daughter said.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by sons Barry (Wendy) Werner of Whitefish Bay, Dr. Brian Werner of Chicago and David (Cindy) Werner of Mequon; brothers Dr. Howard (Brooke) Engle of Miami Beach, Fla., and Jerome (Joyce) Engle of Fox Point; and eight grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at graveside services at Spring Hill Cemetery May 20.
Memorials to Congregation Shalom or Friends of the Milwaukee Public Museum would be appreciated by the family.
