Jack J. Teplin, D.D.S.

Native Milwaukeean Jack J. Teplin died March 8 at the age of 86. The cause of death was Alzheimer’s disease.

A 1937 graduate of West Division High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a D.D.S. degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1944.

He served in the U.S. Navy in both World War II and the Korean War and was active in the Navy and the Marine Forces Reserve.

He practiced dentistry for nearly 50 years in West Allis, Milwaukee and Mequon and served as the chairman of the Mt. Sinai Medical Center Dental Clinic for many years, according to his family.

“‘Dr. Jack’ was loved by his patients for his skillful and compassionate care. He had the privilege of treating multiple generations of many families and served many in the community who otherwise may not have been able to afford treatment,” they said.

He was a member of Congregation Shalom, B’nai Brith Youth Organization, Stanley Marshak Jewish War Veterans Post, of which he was past president, Boy Scouts of America and several professional dental organizations including Alpha Omega International Jewish Dental Fraternity.

His special interests included photography, making jewelry and walking.

Preceded in death by his wife of more than 58 years, Iva, nee Cooper, in 2000 and sister, Alice Schwartz, he is survived by sons Robert (Marian) Teplin, M.D., of Mequon; Albert (Jerilyn) Teplin, Ph.D., of Rockville, Md.; and Stanley (Judith) Teplin, D.D.S., of Mequon; brother Erv (Rita) Teplin, M.D., of Mequon; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at graveside services March 10. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
