Israeli chefs build bridges with food

According to three Israeli chefs, food may have the power to build bridges. In Israel, it brings together Ethiopia and Eastern Europe, Morocco and Paris, East and West Jerusalem.

Chefs David Magen, Rachelle Rosenblatt and Chen Turgeman arrived in Milwaukee Wednesday, Jan. 17, from the Sovev Kinneret area, Milwaukee’s Partnership 2000 region in Israel, for 11 days of cooking, teaching and forming connections.

Magen is course coordinator and chef of the Tiberias Hospitality College at the Holiday Inn in Tiberias; Rosenblatt is director and culinary arts instructor at the Tiberias Hospitality College extension at the Crowne Plaza Tel Aviv Hotel, part of the Holiday Inn chain; and Turgeman is pastry chef at the Holiday Inn in Tiberias and instructor at the Tiberias Hospitality College at the Holiday Inn.

The trio demonstrated techniques, worked with students and prepared meals at seven locations in the community.
