Mindy Marcus-Graskamp, 38, says that she and her husband Peter, 32, have been “in awe everyday” since their first child, Jack Allan Marcus-Graskamp, was born on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Jack, the winner of The Chronicle’s “First Jewish Baby” contest for 2006, was born at 6:13 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, a time his mother called “an interesting coincidence” as 613 is the number of mitzvot that are in the Torah, she said. At birth he weighed 7 pounds, 15 1/2 ounces, and measured 21 inches.
“We think he is a miracle,” Marcus-Graskamp said. She and her husband, who live in River Hills, are “not getting a lot of sleep,” she said, “but we expected that. It’s getting better and he is very cooperative … he’s very sweet.”
Marcus-Graskamp, who attended Nicolet High School, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Texas-Austin, where she earned a Ph.D. in psychology, is a psychologist at the VA Hospital.
Peter Graskamp, a psychotherapist in private practice, grew up in Hales Corners. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Marquette University, where he is completing his Ph.D. in clinical psychology.
The baby’s maternal grandmother is Susan Marcus of Glendale. Linda and Russ Graskamp of Hales Corners are the paternal grandparents.
The baby is named in memory of his maternal grandfather, Jack Marcus, and Russell Graskamp, his paternal grandfather.
