Hillel Academy taps new administrators

While students are enjoying summer vacation, Hillel Academy’s new top two administrators are hard at work preparing for the opening of school in August.

The Hillel Academy board of directors, at its meeting Monday night, appointed Rabbi Yoel Turgeman as the school’s principal and head of Judaic studies and Michelle Ring as its assistant principal and head of secular studies.

Turgeman replaces Rabbi David Abramchik. According to board president Jerry Tepper, “The board has made some changes at the school regarding its top administrative personnel. Abramchik is no longer affiliated with the school in any capacity.” He had no comment on Abramchik’s future plans.

Ring succeeds Janice Matulis, who Tepper said left at the end of the school year during Abramchik’s tenure. Matulis has since accepted a similar position with Yeshiva Elementary School.

Tepper added, “Both appointments are for the coming academic year. Turgeman told the board he would only take the job for one year as he intends to return to Israel next year. The board will begin a national search for a permanent principal later this summer.”

Turgeman has taught Judaic studies at the school for the past two years. Ring formerly taught at the school and left five years ago to teach in the Milwaukee Public Schools. She has been serving as an interim assistant principal for the past two years.

Founded in 1960, Hillel is the oldest Jewish day school in the greater Milwaukee area, serving students in K4 through eighth grades.
