Funeral services were held Feb. 18 for Helen Boris. She died Feb. 15 after succumbing to a brief illness. She was 89.
A native of Odessa, Ukraine, Boris arrived in Milwaukee in 1923 and attended West Division High School. She was a member of Congregation Shalom and was affiliated with the Milwaukee Jewish Convalescent Home and the City of Hope. A homemaker, she also helped her late husband, Aaron Boris, at the liquor store they owned. He died in 1997.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and bingo, and shopping for antiques. In her younger years, she enjoyed sketching and painting portraits of family members. A music lover, Boris played piano by ear, often playing at the JCC Senior Center and family gatherings.
She is survived by sons Fred (Leanne) Boris of Whitefish Bay and Neill (Lanie) Boris of Los Vegas; daughter Suzanne (Sidney) Herszenson of Fox Point; sister Marian Javits of New York City; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
