Harry Rodin

Lifelong Milwaukeean Harry Rodin of Glendale died Oct. 17 of complications from a fall. He was 91.

He graduated from North Division High School and attended Marquette University. Known as “Harry the butcher,” he owned a butcher shop, M. Rodin, Inc., on Oakland Ave., for 25 years, the only kosher meat market on the city’s east side. It was started by his father and he took it over after his death. After closing the store in 1972, he worked as a salesman at Mitchell Carpets, retiring at the age of 80.

A member of Temple Menorah, he also belonged to B’nai B’rith, Harmony Masonic Lodge and the Kosher Meatdealers Association. In addition, he was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

His family will remember “his charisma, warm smile, sense of humor and gentle playfulness.” Always well-dressed, “his pocket handkerchief had to match his tie and French cuffs were a must.” He also enjoyed singing, playing the violin, playing cards and socializing with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pauline Rodin (nee Robbins); daughters Sandy Wiviott of Simi Valley, Calif., and Marlis Lippow of Brookfield; son Les Rodin of Encino, Calif.; sister Edith Meldman of Glendale; brother-in-law Izzy (Betty) Robbins of Grand Rapids, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated at the funeral on Oct. 20. Burial was in Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery.

Contributions to Temple Menorah would be appreciated by the family.
