Harold Frolkis

Harold Frolkis died on Oct. 16 at the age of 51. Born and raised in Skokie, Ill., he moved to Milwaukee in 1981 after three years of service in the Nachal branch of the Israel Defense Forces.

Frolkis graduated from Niles East High School in 1973 and attended Northern Illinois University before making aliyah in 1974. After returning to Chicago briefly, he returned to Israel in 1977 as a member of the Garin Arava, Schlav Bet, to be among the second group of founders of the Reform movement’s first kibbutz, Yahel.

In Milwaukee, Frolkis built and operated a transportation brokerage firm called AF Group.

As a loyal friend and devoted, hands-on father, he kept regular tabs on his children, speaking to them in Hebrew and English, at least once daily no matter where they were, according to his family.

When something delighted, amused or pleased him, his first reaction was to share it with his wife. “Debi,” he’d say, “you’ve got to hear this!” his family said.

Although a Chicago Bears fan, when he moved to Wisconsin he gradually switched his allegiance, becoming a staunch supporter of the Packers and Badgers.

He is survived by wife, Debra (nee Getz) Alpert-Frolkis of Milwaukee; daughters Liza Frolkis and Talia Frolkis, both of Milwaukee, Alexandra Frolkis of Madison, Margo Alpert of Chicago, and Alexis Alpert of Madison; son Zach Alpert of Chicago; father Sidney (Anita) Frolkis of Arlington Heights, Ill.; sister Cathy (Charlie) Fried of Fort Worth, Texas; and former wife, Amy Waldman of Milwaukee. His mother, Jean Frolkis, preceded him in death.

Rabbi David Cohen and Cantor Miriam Eskenasy officiated at graveside services in Second Home Cemetery on Oct. 18.

The family appreciates memorial contributions to American Friends of Magen David Adom, 888 Seventh Avenue, Suite 403, New York, NY 10106, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
