New York (JTA) — Jewish groups collecting emergency relief funds for Israel include:
• The Milwaukee Jewish Federation is gathering funds for the Israel Crisis Fund, which was established nationally by the United Jewish Communities with the Jewish Agency for Israel. Funds will provide emergency humanitarian and relocation relief to vulnerable Israelis, such as youngsters, the elderly, immigrants, the disabled and victims of terror.
One key need is funding summer camps for children from Northern Israel, particularly in Sovev Kinneret, Milwaukee’s Partnership 2000 region around the Sea of Galilee. A gift of $350 will cover one week of camp in central or southern Israel.
The second critical need is for supplies and equipment to improve bomb shelters in the north.
The federation is organizing this community-wide effort. Contact MJF at 414-390-5700, or visit its Web site www.milwaukeejewish.org and click on “Israel Crisis Fund.” Checks, payable to “Milwaukee Jewish Federation” and with “Israel Crisis Fund” on the memo line, may be sent Milwaukee Jewish Federation, 1360 N. Prospect Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53202.
The federation’s Web site has been updated and enhanced to include a “blog,” where community members may share thoughts and feelings that will be directed to P2K leaders.
• The Jewish National Fund has established Operation Security Blanket, raising funds to send Israeli children from the north to summer camps in central Israel, build security roads along the border with Gaza and purchase emergency response equipment.
Wisconsin JNF will be holding a phonathon at its office, 6270 N. Port Washington Rd., on Sunday, July 30, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., for this project. For more information, or to volunteer or contribute, call 414-963-8733.
