Retired social worker Gertrude Finegold (nee Stein) of Glendale died Nov. 19 of cancer. She was 88.
She was born in Russia, lived briefly in Madison and settled in Milwaukee in 1920. She graduated in 1932 from Central High School and in 1936 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in social work.
She was a longtime employee of the Milwaukee County Department of Social Services.
A member of Congregation Beth Israel and its Sisterhood, she also belonged to Hadassah, Na’amat of the USA and the Yachad senior citizens group.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter Ellen (Howard) Glaser of Orange, Calif.; son Barry (Marilyn) Finegold of Fox Point; and four grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on Nov. 23 at Congregation Shalom. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Badger Home for the Blind would be appreciated.
