George Stern of Racine died March 19 at Lakeshore Manor. He was 87.
He was born in Pegan, Germany, and met his wife, Mary (nee Spira), in that country.
Married in 1938, the couple moved in 1939 to Racine, where he owned and operated the Stern Wastepaper and Iron Company for 40 years. He was an active member of Beth Israel Sinai Congregation in Racine.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son Michael J. (Brenda) Stern of Columbus, Ohio; daughter Sandra (Glenn) Wolf of Evanston, Ill.; and four grandsons.
Funeral services were held at the Racine synagogue on March 22, with Cantor Martyn Adelberg officiating. Burial was in Racine Jewish Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials to Beth Israel Sinai Congregation have been suggested.
