Evelyn “Em” Cohn

Longtime community volunteer Evelyn “Em” Cohn (nee Nemzoff) died Aug. 16 of heart failure in Skokie, Ill. She was 87.

She was born in Sheboygan and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in social work. She was married to David Cohn, who died in 1985. The couple had lived in Whitefish Bay and Glendale.

A member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, she also belonged to Hadassah, Na’amat of the USA, the Jewish Home and Care Center Auxiliary and Women’s American ORT. In addition, she volunteered for many years with Reach to Recovery, a program of the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include daughter Bonnie (Jim) Canfield of Tulsa, Okla.; son Dr. Donald (Susie Spitzer) Cohn of Glencoe, Ill.; sister Fran (Ted) Taitelman of Whitefish Bay; brother Herman Nemzoff of Stevens Point; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Rabbi Francis Barry Silberg officiated at the funeral on Aug. 19. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
