Estelle Ruth Rudolph Horenstein (nee Holtzman), a native of Milwaukee, died Feb. 12. She was 79.
A 1946 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she majored in zoology. She worked as a preschool and nursery school teacher, with Head Start, and as a bookkeeper for her family’s business, Holtzman’s Big and Tall Men’s Wear in Milwaukee.
She was a member of Temple Menorah.
“A vivacious woman of great spirit, she passed on her love of life to her three daughters and grandchildren. She maintained her energy in the face of overwhelming physical hardship, and her memory is celebrated by recalling her strength, grace and determination,” her family said.
She was preceded in death by husbands Jack Rudolph in 1978, and Pat Horenstein in 1990.
Survivors include daughters Janice (David Schulta) Rudolph of Mequon, Jill (Neal) Singer and Lori (Marcos Paz) Rudolph, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother Harold (Jeanette) Holzman of Milwaukee; and 12 grandchildren.
Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated at funeral services at Temple Menorah Feb. 14. Burial was in Temple Menorah Ever-Rest Cemetery.
Memorials to the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Temple Menorah or Congregation Sinai would be appreciated by the family.
