Elton Mendeloff, M.D.

Physician Elton Mendeloff, of Glendale, died of a heart attack on Oct. 8. He was 82.
Mendeloff was born in Milwaukee. He attended Washington High School and Marquette University, where he received his medical degree. He was a general surgeon and longtime staff member of Lutheran Hospital of Milwaukee.

He was involved with Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity, as well as the Railroad Surgeons Organization and Jewish National Fund.

A member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, he served for many years on the synagogue’s board. He was also the chairman of the art and the bylaws committees, and a member of the choir.

According to his family, his interests included reading, music and writing poetry.
He is survived by wife Shirley Mendeloff (nee Powerstein); two daughters, Cheryl (Ronald Pachefsky) Mendeloff, of Milwaukee, and Deborah (Dr. Steven Cohen) Mendeloff, of Mequon; son Joel Mendeloff, of Milwaukee; sister, Joyce (Michael) Heller, of Peoria, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Oct. 10 in Mound Zion Cemetery. Rabbi Yitzchak Berman officiated.

Memorial contributions to Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah, Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, Chabad of Downtown, or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Milwaukee are appreciated by the family.
