Eileen Harriet Hammes (nee Lifshitz) of Glendale died of complications of age on Jan. 30. She was 89.
She was born in Russia and graduated from North Division High School. She resided in Chicago and Los Angeles before returning to Milwaukee in the early 1940s.
A homemaker, she was a retired bookkeeper for the federal government, Ace Foods and the Jewish Vocational Service.
She was a member of Congregation Anshai Lebowitz, Women’s American ORT and the Milwaukee Jewish Convalescent Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include son Mark Behar of Milwaukee; step-daughter Rebecca (Lawrence) Cohen of Madison; and two grandchildren. Her husband, Ben Hammes, preceded her in death in 1985.
