Funeral services were held Jan. 21 for Edward N. Gellman of River Hills. He died Jan. 19 of complications of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 76.
A Milwaukee native, he served as a U.S. Navy radar operator in World War II. After his discharge, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received a degree in engineering in 1950.
As a builder-developer, he built homes, apartments and condominiums in Wisconsin as well as around the country.
He also performed volunteer service for the Karl Jewish Community Campus and Chai Point, Boy Scouts of America, International Executive Service Corps and as a radio reader for the blind and hearing impaired. In addition, he was an adjunct instructor at Florida International University in Miami.
He was a member of Congregation Shalom and a skilled yachtsman. According to his family, he was “respected nationwide by friends and business colleagues for his fairness and integrity, dependable preparedness and unflagging sense of responsibility.”
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie (nee Schlitz) Gellman; son David (Salo Rawet) Gellman of San Francisco; daughter Susan (Cantor Jack Chomsky) Gellman of Columbus, Ohio; brother Burton Gellman of Mooresville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro and Cantor Chomsky officiated at the service. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
