Edward A. Stein

Edward A. Stein died on May 10 at the age of 91.

Born in Milwaukee, Stein graduated from Washington High School in 1933. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1937 and a law degree in 1939, both from Marquette University.

He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II and co-founded the Stanley Marsack Jewish War Veterans.

During his many years in the furniture business, he owned Stein Kosciuszko Furniture, Paul Weise Furniture, and the Furniture Venture Outlet. He was voted Furniture Retailer of the Year several times and also served as president of the Wisconsin Retail Furniture Association.

Stein was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue.

According to his family, Stein was a “visionary and an innovator” who was “admired, respected and loved deeply.” He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and loved ones and playing golf.

He is survived by wife Anita Stein (nee Chernin) of Milwaukee; daughters Marla (Fernando) Barreira of Venice, Calif., Bonnie (David) Gold of Agoura, Calif., and Karen Stein of Milwaukee; son Steven (Connie) Stein of Milwaukee; and 7 grandchildren.

Rabbi Yitzchak Berman officiated at graveside services held in Spring Hill Cemetery on May 14.
