Dave Friedman

Longtime Milwaukee resident Dave Friedman died Feb. 16 of complications of an infection. He was 89.

He was born in Herron, Ill., where he graduated from the Paul Binner School in 1931.
For 10 years, he operated Sylvia’s Food Market, a family grocery store at 46th and Burleigh Sts. and then at 38th and Center Sts. Later, he worked as a mechanic at the downtown post office.

He was a member of Congregation Beth Jehudah for more than 50 years and volunteered at the former Mt. Sinai Medical Center about 13 years.

According to his family, he was a very social, active person who also loved animals, especially dogs. He was proud of his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he frequently drove to Hebrew school or other appointments up until the week of his death.

He is survived by sons Louis (Dolly) Friedman of Milwaukee and Elimelech (Rose) Friedman of Chicago; daughter Lynn (Jeff) Marcus of Milwaukee; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His wife, Sylvia Friedman, died in 1968.

Rabbi Michel Twerski officiated at the funeral on Feb. 17. Burial was in Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Congregation Beth Jehudah would be appreciated by the family.
