Madison resident Carla Michele Blum died July 6 of breast cancer at the age of 50.
A native of Oshkosh, she graduated from Oshkosh North High School in 1974 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1978. In 1979, she went to work for the State Public Defender’s Office in Madison, where, according to her family, “her co-workers became a second family to her.” She retired as the state’s manager of human resources in 2005.
In 1997, she married Ismor Fischer, Ph.D., in Oshkosh, at her parents’ home overlooking Lake Winnebago, her family said.
She was a member of Congregation B’nai Israel in Oshkosh, and later of Temple Beth El in Madison. She was also a member of Hadassah and Temple Beth El’s Sisterhood.
She enjoyed reading, gourmet and ethnic cooking, travel to her family’s home on Siesta Key, Fla., and her two dogs, Libby and Sadie.
In addition to husband Ismor Fisher of Madison, she is survived by brothers David Blum and Marc C. (Kathleen) Blum, D.D.S., both of Oshkosh.
A memorial service was held July 9 at Congregation B’nai Israel in Oshkosh. Religious director Gary Wolfman officiated. Final interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to hospice care or Jewish Social Services in Madison.
