Brenda Jankins

Former Milwaukeean Brenda Jankins died of cancer on March 25 in Shingle Springs, Calif. She was 54.

She was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Nicolet High School in 1966. She continued her studies at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and graduated in 1970 from the American University in Jerusalem.

Soon after her graduation, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked as an insurance marketing specialist for more than 20 years. After her retirement, she moved from the “concrete jungle” to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Her community activities included volunteering at the El Dorado Women’s Center and taking her dog to visit children at Shriner’s Hospital in Sacramento.

According to her family, she loved nature and trees, especially the redwood forests of the Northwest. She also loved to travel, and made trips to Israel, Russia and Alaska, among other places. She also liked rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Weinberg; parents Tillie and Ralph Jankins of Milwaukee; and brothers Scott Jankins of Menomonee Falls and Mark Jankins of Studio City, Calif.

A memorial service was held on March 28 at Congregation Beth Shalom in Carmichael, Calif. Rabbi Matt Friedman officiated.

Contributions to the El Dorado Women’s Center, 1248 Broadway, or Snowline Hospice, 670 Placerville Dr., both in Placerville, CA 95667, would be appreciated by the family.
