Beth El to present Chudnow Concert

In celebration of Lag B’Omer, Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue will present a concert dedicated to the memory of longtime member Joe Chudnow on Monday, May 19, 7 p.m.

Guest artist will be Cantor Sol Zim. He will perform with Beth El Cantor Jerome Berkowitz, the Milwaukee Jewish Day School Choir, the Beth El Choir and a four-piece orchestra.

Zim is a master cantor, composer, songwriter, recording artist, concert performer and educator. He has been cantor at Hollis Hills Jewish Center in New York since 1964.” L’dor Vador,” “Sim Shalom” and “Adon Olam” are a few of the songs he has composed and arranged.

His more than 25 cassettes and CDs feature Jewish music ranging from Yiddish to Hebrew to Hasidic to cantorial. He was the first American composer and singer invited to the Israeli Hasidic Song Festival, which he won with his performance of “Shalom Alecheim.”

Zim has created a music curriculum for Hebrew and Jewish day schools that is being used across the country. He has published 12 original music books that are used worldwide. He also just published a new two-volume work called “The Spirit of Shabbat.”

He serves on the board of directors of the Jewish Ministers Cantor’s Association and the Cantors Assembly of America.
