Bernard P. Chortek

Bernard Phillip Chortek of Glendale died Dec. 2 of cancer. He was 70.

A Madison native, he came to Milwaukee in 1957 and owned and operated Modern Vending. He retired in 2001.

He graduated from Madison West High School in 1951 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.

He was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun. He loved work and sports and will be “remembered for his smile and love of family,” according to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Chortek (nee Gerstein); daughters Patty (Dr. Ray) Fedderly of Milwaukee and Susan (Lee) Ullman of Leawood, Kan.; son Steven Chortek of Plymouth, Minn.; brothers Irving Chortek, Samuel (Dori) Chortek and Peter (Elaine) Chortek; and five grandchildren.

Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated at the funeral on Dec. 5. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
