Glendale resident Bella Fisher (née Mantell) died May 31. She was 86.
Born in Tomashow, Poland, she came to Wisconsin in 1921. Her father, the late Louis Mantell, owned Mantell’s Walnut Street Bakery at 9th and Walnut Streets. Her brother, Pvt. Jack Mantell, was killed in World War II.
She was a 1936 graduate of North Division High School. For 16 years she worked with special needs students in the Milwaukee Public Schools.
She was a member of Temple Menorah, where she was very active in the Mr. and Mrs. Club and helped raise funds for the synagogue’s first piano. She also held various positions in the Morris R. Guten Auxiliary No. 487, Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A.
According to her family she enjoyed family, friends, travel, music, theater and participating in senior groups.
Her husband, Simon Fisher, preceded her in death in 1978. She is survived by sons Marc (Joan) Fisher of Oak Creek and Dr. Jack (Rita) Fisher of Aptos, Calif.; daughter Penny (Barry) Goldman of Bayside; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Agudas Achim cemetery on June 3. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated.
