Milwaukee native Beatrice Chudnow (nee Goldberg) died on Feb. 22. She was 91.
A graduate of North Division High School, Chudnow worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the business of her brothers-in-law, Suburban Management Company, LLC, in Milwaukee.
Chudnow’s commitment to Judaism and philanthropy defined many of her life’s activities.
An active member of the Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue Sisterhood, she also participated in the congregation’s Torah Fund and worked in its gift shop.
She often visited the sick and elderly and received a “Woman of Valor” award from the Sisterhoods of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and Congregation Beth Israel. She and her late husband, Benjamin, were honored by Jewish National Fund.
“Bea was a remarkable woman who continued to work and prepare family Shabbat dinners until weeks before her death,” her family said.
“Before each Shabbat meal, she welcomed everyone and then she’d say, ‘We’re family, we are here for one another, we must do for one another and we must love one another. But it’s not enough to love one another; we must tell each other that we love each other, and I love all of you.’
“She lived her life with strength, dignity, integrity and a strong work ethic.”
Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Benjamin Chudnow, and son, Lawrence Chudnow, she is survived by son Richard Chudnow (Jennifer Rupp) of Whitefish Bay; daughter Judy (Bill) Franke of St. Paul, Minn.; brother Albert (Naomi) Goldberg of Mequon; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Goodman Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home. Services were officiated by Rabbi Yitzchak Berman at Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue on Feb. 25. Burial was in Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery.
The family appreciates memorial contributions to Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue Sisterhood, Jewish Community Food Pantry or a charity of the donor’s choice.
