Former long-time Milwaukeean Ann Smith (nee Holzman) died in Newport, N.C., on Aug. 7. She was 99.
One of ten children, she was born in Russia and came to Milwaukee in 1903. According to her grandson Steve Smith, she was a homemaker and was married for 67 years to railroad conductor Benjamin Smith, who died in 1992.
She was a member of Congregation Agudas Achim and was active in its sisterhood. She lived in Milwaukee until around 1995, when she moved to Newport.
She is survived by daughters Lois (Burton) Turf of Newport and Reva Volking of Chicago; daughter-in-law Roberta Smith Raskin of Boca Raton, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Her son, Alvin Smith, died in an accident in 1990.
Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated at the funeral service in Milwaukee. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
