Native Milwaukeean Allan Edward Kagen, M.D., died June 29 at the age of 76.
A 1947 graduate of Washington High School, he earned undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completing his M.D. degree in 1954. He subsequently earned board certification in neurological surgery.
After serving in the United States Air Force from 1957-59, he practiced neurosurgery in Milwaukee, starting in 1961. He was on staff at St. Michael, Mount Sinai, and St. Joseph hospitals and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
He was a member of Congregation Shalom and several medical associations, including Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, the Wisconsin Medical Society and the American College of Neurological Surgeons.
He enjoyed reading, golf, classical music, travel, automobiles, and his family.
He was preceded in death by sister Dorothy Singer, brother Louis Kagen, M.D., and son Steven Kagen.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene Kagen (nee Schneider), son Rick (Rene) Kagen of Bennett, Colo.; daughters Cheryl Kagen of West Seneca, N.Y., and Judi Austin of Mequon; and six grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at funeral services July 2. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
