Community volunteer Alice Schwartz (nee Teplinsky) of Mequon died Jan. 29 at the age of 83.
She was born in Milwaukee and graduated from West Division High School. A homemaker, she volunteered at the Jewish Home & Care Center for many years and was a member of its auxiliary.
She also was past president of the Stanley Marshak Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA and belonged to Na’amat of the USA, Women’s American ORT and B’nai B’rith Women.
She was a member of Congregation Shalom. Her family said she was an avid mah jongg and bridge player, to the point where “It was almost a profession for her.” She also enjoyed knitting and making jewelry.
Survivors include daughters Judith Padek of Milwaukee and Sandra (Dennis) Mackman of Parkland, Fla.; brothers Dr. Ervin (Rita) Teplin and Dr. Jack (Iva) Teplin, both of Milwaukee; brother-in-law Allen (Roseclaire) Schwartz of Milwaukee; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Schwartz, who died in 1995.
Rabbi Shari Heinrich conducted funeral services on Jan. 31. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
Contributions to Congregation Shalom were suggested by the family.
