Native Milwaukeean Albert J. Tarney died March 27. He was 88.
After completing high school at age 16, he graduated from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in three years, and then from Marquette University Law School. He practiced law for many years, according to his family. He funded most of his education independently by working summers and weekends, they said.
“His kindness and his gentleness was truly his strength and he was a best friend to all three of his children until his death,” his family said.
A member of Temple Menorah, he was an avid reader and “continued to read a book a week until his death,” according to his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Irene Tarney.
He is survived by son Gene Tarney of Milwaukee; daughters Shari (David) Lowe of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Judith Stein of Milwaukee; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated at burial services March 29. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association would be appreciated by the family.
