Kaukauna resident Abraham Joseph Goldin died March 28 at the age of 92.
He was born in Kaukauna and graduated from high school there. After receiving a degree in journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he operated A. Goldin Iron & Metal which had been operated by the family for 83 years. He also served as a justice of the peace for 10 years and was given a key to the city.
He was a member and past president of Moses Montefiore Synagogue in Appleton. He was a lifetime member of Hadassah; active in the synagogue Brotherhood, B’nai B’rith and the Elks Golf Club; and a supporter of the United Jewish Appeal and Israel Bonds.
He enjoyed golf and bowling. His family said, “He was a tower of strength, pillar of integrity and a source of love, support, compassion and wisdom for us all. The world is a better place today than it would have been had he not lived.”
He is survived by daughters Arlone Kroll and Nancie Bear, both of Milwaukee, and Terrie (Philip) Galvin of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sister Jen Goldin Rusky of Appleton; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Iva Goldin (nee Paykel), who died in 1994.
Rabbi Sidney Vineburg of Green Bay officiated at the funeral on March 30. Burial was in Moses Montefiore Cemetery.
Memorials to the synagogue or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
