Sharon Marcus

Sharon Marcus (nee Stein) died on Jan. 18, 2025, in Phoenix, at the age of 73.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Dr. Barry Marcus, to whom she had been married since 1977; her daughter, Julianne “Annie” (Josh) Robinson; her grandchildren, Lexi and Zach Robinson; her sister, Mari Ellen Birnbaum; her sister-in-law, Barbara Eve Marcus; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, May (nee Kaplan) and Rubin Stein and her brother, Mark Stein.

She was a loving, devoted mother, a 24-karat gold jewelry entrepreneur, and an elementary school teacher.  She was not only a great person in her own right but also a wonderful supporter of Barry in all his professional endeavors.

Sharon’s life revolved around her relationship with Annie. Totally devoted to Annie’s happiness, during Annie’s childhood, the two of them —  often along  with Sharon’s best friend, Elvia Gomez, whom Sharon had met in in Sherman Oaks California — were inseparable. They were three musketeers, in the best sense. Whether it was going out for lunch, out for dinner, frequent trips to Disneyland, Sea World, and Las Vegas, or just hanging out at their home base in Sherman Oaks, California, they ALWAYS had an absolute blast together with ear-to-ear smiles on their faces.  Sharon and Annie were and are two peas in a pod, cut from the same cloth.  Fittingly, Annie took charge of Sharon’s medical and end-of-life care, lovingly and beautifully.

Sharon was also devoted to her brother, Mark, and made frequent, arduous long-distance trips from Texas, Arizona and California to Milwaukee, where Mark lived, to love and support him during life’s ups-and-downs.

Sharon graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in elementary school education and taught as an elementary school teacher at Milwaukee Public Schools for 10 years.

From 1979 to 1982, in Mesa, Arizona, Sharon sold 24-karat gold jewelry literally out of a suitcase, going door-to-door with her wares to car dealerships, doctors’ offices, and private homes. She successfully sold gold jewelry in each place because of her outgoing, caring, down-to-earth sales style; people just loved buying gold jewelry from her. She said that to take care of her customers, she even went to their hospital bed to have a jewelry clasp fixed, if it broke!

The entire month of December in 1980, Sharon had private jewelry parties in people’s houses —  every single day of that month!  She was a natural at sales.

There was a funeral service via Zoom on Jan. 23. Interment was at Agudas Achim Cemetery, Cudahy. Rabbi Emily Segal officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family.

To remember Sharon, find some of your old 24-karat gold jewelry, put it on, and smile.
