Chronicle wins four awards for ‘Excellence in Journalism’

The Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle will take home four Excellence in Journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club banquet on May 12, 2023, to be held at The Pfister in Downtown Milwaukee. 

Editor Rob Golub will win an award for Best Long Hard Feature Story, for his article, “At 20, this Interlaken summer camp counselor is a Ukrainian refugee.” Golub will also win an award for Best Column. His submitted examples were,Putin’s war is maddening and obscene,”Thank you, Jeff German,” andFight bride slide!” 

Finalists like Golub, for the 2022 awards, were announced in March, before the Pfister event on May 12. At the event, journalists learn whether they have won first, second or third place. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Cap Times, the Milwaukee Business Journal and Milwaukee Magazine are among those who enter the annual Milwaukee Press Club awards.  

Also winning awards, in the collegiate category, will be two former Chronicle interns, for their work while interning for the Chronicle. Sofia Rubinson will win for Best Short Hard Feature Story, for Local chavurah helps Afghan refugees.” 

Rubinson is managing editor of The Cornell Daily Sun at Cornell University and has continued to write for the Chronicle, post internship. 

Former intern Rachel Gorman-Cooper will win, also in first, second or third place, in the collegiate category for Best Editorial or Commentary. Her submitted story was,Opinion: We fought so hard for equality. We thought we won, and here we are again. We must act.”
