Dates for Yamim in Milwaukee are set

The Milwaukee Jewish Federation will be hosting a series of gatherings to commemorate Israel’s 75th birthday.

Three events at this time of year are called Yamim. Yom Haatzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, which will take place at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center on Sunday, April 30 starting at 2 p.m. The celebration follows the Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) and Yom Hazikaron (Israel’s Day of Remembrance) events on Monday, April 17, 6 p.m. and Monday, April 24, 7 p.m., respectively.

Yamim reflects on the journey of the Jewish people from suffering to freedom, according to the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. Israel was founded on May 14, 1948.

In addition to the three key Yamim events, there is an ongoing series of other events marking Israel’s 75th anniversary called “Faces & Voices of Israel.” Yamim is organized by Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC, and Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Certer.
