Writing, art contest for students

The Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center and Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center are inviting students, grades 7 through 12, to participate in their 2023 Holocaust Writing and Art Contest.

Students should focus on how lessons learned from the Holocaust may assist in combating modern day antisemitism. The submissions should be creative and original in how they present their theme. The students may choose one out of several mediums including essay, poetry, short story, film, visual art, sculpture or podcast/social media. Four winners will be chosen to receive a trip to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

The Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center, a program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, aims to serve as a source of tolerance and education. Its main focus is to use lessons learned from the Holocaust as a source of inspiration to fight back against modern day antisemitism.

The Harry Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center is a nonprofit organization that provides wellness, education and communal programs. They have six locations in Wisconsin.

This year’s contest is sponsored by the Habush Family Foundation.

The deadline for submissions is April 3, 2023. Contest details can be found online at HolocaustCenterMilwaukee.org/contest
