Kai Gardner-Mishlove to lead Jewish Social Services of Madison

Kai Gardner-Mishlove has been named the new executive director of Jewish Social Services of Madison.

Gardner-Mishlove brings a wealth of leadership experience in social services, in refugee resettlement, and in Wisconsin’s Jewish communities, according to a news release.

She will start at JSS in late August. Her prior role has been as director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

“I am elated for the opportunity to lead a wonderful organization committed to empowering and improving the lives of so many individuals and families in Dane County,” said Garnder-Mishlove. “I am honored to join the JSS team, and I look forward to elevating JSS’s mission inspired by Jewish values, a commitment to our Jewish community and a love for humanity across cultures and generations.”

In addition to her extensive nonprofit professional work, Garnder-Mishlove has been an active community volunteer, according to the release. She has served on the boards of Hillel Milwaukee, JCRC Milwaukee, the Friendship Circle of Wisconsin, the National Council of Jewish Women-Milwaukee, and more. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Boston University and has attended graduate studies in Public Health at the University of Illinois.

Gardner-Mishlove joins JSS following the retirement of Dawn Berney, who successfully led the agency through significant growth including expanded refugee resettlement and chaplaincy work, according to the release.
