The Fight to Vote 

The National Council of Jewish Women – Milwaukee Section and Movement Voter Project will present an Advocacy Movie Night, featuring an outdoor screening of the filmSuppressed and Sabotaged: The Fight to Vote.” There will be opportunities to connect with local grassroots groups who are organizing volunteer opportunities to enable more voting access. Maestro lecture  

Presented by Tapestry Arts & Ideas at the JCC, Maestro George Stelluto will discuss the influence of Jewish composers – such as Ernest Bloch and Leonard Bernstein – and their impact on the evolution of Western art music, as well as how we can achieve true diversity, equity and inclusion in the art music world. Jews and India 

The ancient Bene-Israel community in India dates back 2,000 years. Hear about their story and place within the larger narrative of Jewish migration to, residence within, and emigration from India — largely to Israel. With scholar, author and Georgetown University Professor Ori Z. Soltes. Explore the history of Jewish India, connecting the chronicle of the Bene-Israel with Siona Benjamin, an award-winning artist from within that diminishing community. Presentation followed by book signing of “Growing Up Jewish in India.” In connection with “Beyond Borders: The Art of Siona Benjamin,” an exhibit on display at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee, June 17 – Sept. 25, 2022. Moving history forward 

“The Torah of Zion: Moving History Forward.” ASKT will host its 2022 Annual Event, honoring Hollie and Armin Nankin, Joel and Chana Eckhardt and Young Leadership Awardees, Mara and Matt Kleiman. Ukranian newcomers 

Milwaukee Jewish Federation is hosting a webinar on how to assist Ukrainians, fleeing war, who come to Wisconsin. Here’s how you can get involved. Included will be a brief overview of the Ukrainians who have applied to enter the U.S., how to formally sponsor newcomers and how to start a Welcome Circle. Shalom Summer Music  

Join Congregation Shalom for its summer music series featuring Yaniv Dinur. Yaniv is the 2019 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Fellow, resident conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the music director of the New Medford Symphony Orchestra. Joining Yaniv will be Peter J. Thomas, cellist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, adjunct cello faculty at Carthage College and the co-founder of MusiConnect. Jewish Food Festival 2022 

The Peltz Center for Jewish Life will host the 4th Annual Jewish Food Festival that unites the community in the greater Mequon area by sharing cultural and ethnic foods. This year’s festival will feature a new lineup of local entertainers, more activities and a fun zone for children. Aug. 14 and 15 from 12-7 p.m. Rotary Park, 4100 Highland Rd., Mequon. Back to School training 

The Coalition for Jewish Learning will offer a back-to-school professional development workshop for teachers from all Jewish community schools through the LOMED (Learning Opportunities for Milwaukee Educators) program. Ravinia field trip 

Ravinia Outdoor Amphitheater Field Trip. Join the Tapestry Arts & Ideas at the JCC to enjoy an evening of music at the beautiful Ravinia outdoor amphitheater in Highland Park, Ill. The evening will start with a private lecture with Maestro George Stelluto followed by a concert with world-renowned violinist, Itzhak Perlman. Bike4Friendship 

Pedal for a cause that empowers a community of love, support and belonging for children and individuals with special needs at the Friendship Circle of Wisconsin. Cyclists will bike from Fox Point to Door County in two days. Minimum fundraising requirements. Transportation, bike rental and gear are the responsibility of the biker. UMatter Gala 

Join the Friendship Circle of Wisconsin and local teens for the UMatter Gala featuring guest speaker Pamela Rae Schuller. UMatter is a once-a-month support group where teens express themselves and talk about mental health without judgement as well as receive support from other teens. ‘Blue Like Me’ 

Join the Jewish Museum Milwaukee and America’s Black Holocaust Museum for a screening of the film “Blue Like Me.”  This documentary profiles Indian American artist Siona Benjamin who was raised in the small Bene Israel Jewish community in Mumbai, India. “Blue Like Me” travels with Benjamin to Mumbai, revisiting the Bene Israel Jews portrayed in her recent Fulbright project. This event includes a post-screening conversation with Chelsea Cross, a consultant with Crossroad Solutions, member of the Board of Directors of Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee, Milwaukee’s point person for Edot Midwest Regional Jewish Diversity and Racial Justice Collaborative, and Nirmal Raja, an interdisciplinary artist, mentor for the Milwaukee Artists Resource Network, recipient of the Mildred L. Harpole Artists of the Year 2022 award from the Milwaukee Arts Board. They will discuss themes explored in the film including issues of identity, gender, and notions of inclusion and exclusion.
