JCC Annual Meeting  

Join the Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC for its 2021-22 Annual Meeting that will install the 2022-23 board of directors, recognize awardees and share the state of the JCC and vision for the future. Singing for Ukraine 

Congregation Emanu-El B’ne will host a Singing for Ukraine concert that will feature three acts including Robin Pluer and Peter Roller, Frogwater and Lil’ Rev with special guests Cantor David Barash and Ella Rose. The concert will raise funds for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Community members can attend in-person or online through a live-stream on CEEBJ’s YouTube channel or Facebook page. Suggested donation of $5-18 dollars with proceeds going to Ukrainian relief efforts. June 2 at 7 p.m. Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, 2020 W. Brown Deer Rd. Celebrating Doris   

Milwaukee Jewish Day School students, staff and staff emerita will gather during an outdoor Shabbat Sing and present former head of school, Doris Shneidman, with the Coalition for Jewish Learning Lifetime Impact Award. Economic Forum 2022  

The Milwaukee Jewish Federation Economic Forum 2022 luncheon will feature keynote speaker Samantha Radocchia. Radocchia is a frontier tech serial founder, author, entrepreneur and named one of Forbes 30 under 30. The luncheon will conclude with a panel discussion featuring Radocchia and local business experts. June 7 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Community Carnival  

The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC will bring back its annual summer festival that celebrates summer and features many outdoor family activities. Tribe Ride  

Join Jewish National Fund Wisconsin for the Tribe Ride that will cover 20 miles of the Oak Leaf Trail. Participants will casually ride to Discovery world and back while learning about the Israel Ride from the Israel Ride and Team JNF Wisconsin captains, Cantor David and Debra Barash. The Tribe Ride is open to all cyclists and all participants are required to wear a helmet. June 12 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. Starting at Wheel & Sprocket, 6940 N. Santa Monica Blvd, Fox Point. The Splitting of the Red Sea

Author Event: Riva Lehrer 

The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC Tapestry program will bring Riva Lehrer to Milwaukee to talk about her book “Golem Girl: A Memoir.” In 1958, Riva Lehrer was born with spina bifida. As an adult, she is invited to join a group of artists who are building Disability Culture. When Riva asks if she can paint their portraits, she invents an intimate and collaborative process that will transform the way she sees herself, others and the world. Offered in partnership with the JCC Center for Inclusion & Special Needs. June 14 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. Open to the community. Hope, Help, Healing Gala 

Jewish Family Services will hold its annual Hope, Help and Healing Gala featuring guest speaker LeRoy Butler, retired Green Bay Packer and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022, Super Bowl XXXI Champion, and inventor of The Lambeau Leap. Funds raised at this event will support services to improve the health, personal wellbeing and level of independence of persons with disabilities, mental health issues, substance use disorders and families with low household incomes. Council Annual Meeting 

The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation will hold its annual meeting and luncheon under the theme “Building Bridges Through Understanding.” The event will feature an election of officers and members of the board and community council, and guest speaker Oren Jacobson who is a civic entrepreneur, thought leader and policy advisor. The event will also include an award presentation of the Robert H. Friebert Social Justice Award to Judge Derek Mosley. $40 per person. June 16 at 11:45 a.m. The Box MKE, 311 E. The Art of Siona Benjamin 

Celebrate the opening of the newest exhibit at Jewish Museum Milwaukee, “Beyond Borders: The Art of Siona Benjamin.” Raised as a Jew and member of the Bene Israel community in a largely Hindu and Muslim Mumbai, she attended Catholic and Zoroastrian schools before moving to the U.S. Benjamin will address both the artistic and socio-political motivations for her work at the opening exhibit preview. Light refreshments and a live dance performance will be included. June 16 at 7 p.m. This is an in-person event only. Members $10. Nonmembers $18. Register by June 13. Chalk the Block 

Join Jewish Museum Milwaukee for “Chalk The Block,” a family-friendly block party that puts ART at its center. During this event, participants young and old will be provided with simple drawings steeped in Indian imagery to use as templates for their creativity. Trained artists, including Siona Benjamin, the featured artist of the museum’s newest exhibit “Beyond Borders: The Art of Siona Benjamin,” will add inspiration and direction as needed. Participants can come for a short while or stay to watch the community transform a public space into a work of art in four different locations:  Jewish Museum Milwaukee, 1360 N. Prospect Ave., Mitchell Street Branch of Milwaukee Public Library, 906 W. Mitchell St., Black Cat Alley – in partnership with East Branch Library, E. Chinooks Family Outing 

Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun will hold its 8th Annual Family Chinooks Outing where Cantor David Barash will perform the National Anthem and sing during the seventh inning. Professional Advisors Seminar 

The Jewish Community Foundation will hold an advisors forum and luncheon featuring guest speaker Eido Walny, founder/managing attorney of Walny Legal Group LLC will offer methods he uses to initiate charitable conversations with clients and his best practices for making charitable legacy gifts. He will offer tips for helping clients finalize their mostly-completed estate plans (or update completed plans), with an eye toward how charitable legacy gifts could help with planning. $18 per person. Nickoll award luncheon 

The Milwaukee Jewish Federation will be honoring Danny Kerns and Noah D. Domnitz with the Benjamin and John Nickoll Young Leadership Award at its annual luncheon. This award is given to a young man who demonstrates exemplary leadership within the Jewish community. The award was established in 1962 to honor Ben Nickoll, a leader of the MJF and Jewish community in the 1940s and 1950s. June 27 at 12 p.m. The Pfister–Rouge Ballroom, 424 E. Greenfield Summer Institute 

Hosted by the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies in Madison, the 2022 Greenfield Summer Institute features historians, social scientists and scholars of religion that will explore the changing nature of Jewish families and their interactions with the larger societies they inhabit. Speakers will discuss wide-ranging subjects as race and diversity in the family context; dating, marriage, and sex in the Orthodox world; the portrayal of Jewish families in film and television; and one extended Jewish family’s role in defeating Nazi forces in North Africa during World War II. This summer institute will offer a richer understanding of the phrase le-Dor va-Dor — from generation to generation. July 11-July 14.
