Howard “Howie” Ackerman 

Howard “Howie” Ackerman of Florida, 78, died March 22, 2022.  

He was born in Milwaukee on Feb. 16, 1944. He was a graduate of Shorewood High School, University of Wisconsin – Madison and Marquette School of Dentistry. He was a dentist who loved his work. A great storyteller, his patients adored him. He was an avid reader, very spiritual, enjoyed and told the best jokes with great dialects as well as punchlines. He had time for everyone and always went out of his way to accommodate. 

He is survived by wife Carol (Okrent). Also survived by adult children Erin (Kevin) Kullman and Andy Ackerman and grandchldren Erika and Jordan Kullman, and Max and Chelsea Ackerman. 

Place of burial was Star of David North Lauderdale on March 25. Rabbi Andrew Jacobs assisted the family, with HomeStar of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral, North Lauderdale, Florida.  
 

Marc D. Altman 

Marc D. Altman died March 27, 2022, at the age of 70. 

Beloved husband of Arlene Altman (nee Segal). Cherished father of Elizabeth (Jeremy) Safran. Loving grandfather of Sophia Safran. Dear brother of Vicki (Robert) Marx, Dana (Bob) Schaffel, Scott (Barbara) Altman and Martin (Suzanne) Altman. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends. Private funeral services were held at Agudas Achim Cemetery on March 30. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. 
 

Rosalee Bamberger 
 

Rosalee “Rosie” Weinstock Bamberger, age 64, died on March 30, 2022. She fought a valiant cancer battle with extraordinary grace, courage and perseverance. Rosie was a brilliant and strong woman who was always optimistic. She was a selfless, kind, caring and compassionate person, touching the lives of so many. Her medical intuition was legendary, despite no formal medical training. Rosie enjoyed playing mahjong with her friends and the simple things in life, including bird watching, Door County sunsets and spending time with her children, grandchildren and beloved husband. 
 
She is survived by her husband Michael of 43 years and her amazing children and sons-in-law: Ilana (Adam) Spector, Mara (Joshua) Berman and Robert Bamberger, her two sisters Esther (Ric) Ancel and Gitta (Barry) Chaet, and sisters-in-law Barbara Bamberger and Sandi (David) Brooks and nieces and nephews. She was known as Roro to her beautiful grandchildren Elliot, Harvey, Peri, Kara, Max and Jesse, whose lives she enriched every day and who absolutely adored her. May her memory be a blessing. 
 
Funeral services were April 1 at Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid; must follow protocols if attending, including vaccine cards. Glendale. Interment at Agudas Achim Cemetery, Cudahy. Donations to the Pincus and Bluma Weinstock Holocaust Endowment Fund at the Jewish Community Center.  

 
Stuart Hirschbein  

 
Stuart A. Hirschbein died on March 31, 2022, at the age of 74.  

Preceded in death by parents, Max and Marylin (nee Ginsberg), and sister, Linda (Dr. Melvyn) Wagner. Survived by other relatives and friends. Private burial at Temple Menorah Ever-Rest Cemetery. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions to Temple Menorah appreciated. 

Jordan M. Fishman 

 
Jordan M. Fishman died on April 17, 2022, at the age of 59. He was a devoted and loving husband to Barbara Goss Fishman for over 30 years. Cherished son of Marcia Laskey (nee Barland) and the late Samuel Fishman. Further survived by his stepfather, Eugene Laskey; uncle, Shawn Barland; sister, Rachel (Jonathan) Frank; and a multitude of dear friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Alan Barland, and grandparents, Herbert and Florence Barland.  

Jordan worked in Milwaukee Public Schools as a teacher and assistant principal where he treated all students and colleagues with understanding, compassion and respect even after retirement. His love of learning extended to his personal life where he enjoyed sharing encyclopedic knowledge about a wide variety of topics. 

Jordan will be remembered for his qualities as a husband and friend. Jordan was kind, principled, loyal, and a role model and mentor to many. Generous with his time and resources, he spent a large portion of his life in service to others. Jordan adored his wife, and never missed an opportunity to gather with friends to celebrate any occasion. 

A graveside funeral service was held on April 20 at Second Home Cemetery, Milwaukee. Rabbi Yisroel Lein officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions to Chabad of the East Side or American Diabetes Association are appreciated. 

 
Ilya Kogan   

Ilya Kogan died March 30, 2022 at the age of 96, just days away from 97. A century of perseverance. Cherished father of Mila (Leonard) Vishnevetsky. Beloved grandfather of Dimitry Vishnevetsky. Fighter ‘till the end, lived and died on his own terms, outlived most. A tribute to what is possible if you never give up. A graveside service was held April 1at Mound Zion Cemetery, Brookfield. Rabbi Yaakov Elman officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorials to the American Heart Association appreciated.  

Gary Mason 

Gary Edward Mason, 69, son of the late Ralph and Frieda Mason, died after a long illness on March 28, 2022, at West Allis Medical Center. Gary is survived by his brother, Richard, and sister-in-law, Joyce, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Gary graduated from Washington High School and held an associate degree in broadcasting from Milwaukee Area Technical College. He worked as a music cataloger at WOKY and was a musician and music promoter maintaining his Wisconsin Bands website. He is missed by his close friends, Steve Lange and Don Green. Special thanks to the nurses on the sixth floor of West Allis Memorial Hospital.  

Graveside service held April 5, 2022, at Temple Menorah Ever-Rest Cemetery, Milwaukee. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Lorraine Mitz 

Lorraine Mitz (nee Bass) of Bayside, died April 2, 2022, at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Morry Mitz. Loving mother of Natalie (Roger) Palay, Richard Mitz, Carrie (Ralph) Jacobson and Michael Mitz. Proud grandmother of Joshua (Jaime) Palay, Sonya (Andrew) Ziaja, David (Laura) Palay, Stacy (Chris) O’Toole, Dan (Megan) Mitz, Jeffrey (Brigid) Mitz, Noah (Erica) Jacobson and Evan (Lisa) Jacobson; and great-grandmother of Sadie, Ari, Will, Bryce, Elliott, Camden, William, Maxwell, Brynn, and Remy. Sister of the late Judith Kellman. Further survived by sister-in-law Lila (late Joseph) Stern and other loving relatives, and dear friends. 

Lorraine was a tireless volunteer throughout her life serving organizations in the Jewish and Milwaukee communities, her children’s schools, the fine arts, theater, her synagogue, and other philanthropic causes. She brought to these organizations her dedication, energy and generosity. 

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Lorraine’s caregivers for their loving care, devotion, and companionship.

Sofia Rivelis 

Sofia Rivelis died April 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Beloved mother of Svetlana Levy. Cherished grandmother of Lena and Lauren Levy and loving great-grandmother of Michael Levy. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends. Private funeral services were held at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery. Rabbi Yaakov Elman officiated. Cecelia “Ceil” Rynski 

Cecelia “Ceil” Rynski (nee Solochek), native of Milwaukee died on April 17, 2022, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota. She was 86 years young. 

Beloved wife of Henry Rynski for nearly 68 years. Loving mother of Darlene (Byron) Arbeit and Robin (David) Mintz. Proud grandmother of Erin Friend, Meredith Petrone, Julia Jacobson, Amanda Arbeit, Jordan Mintz, Joshua Mintz, and Jenna Mintz and nine great-grandchildren: Ari, Eli and Ezra Friend; Jonah, Tess and Charlie Petrone; and Liam, Jack and Ellie Jacobson. Dear aunt of David and Terri Solochek. Further survived by other relatives and friends. 

Her legacy will be carried forward through all the good done by those she touched.  She will be deeply missed. 

Graveside funeral service was held April 25 at Agudas Achim Cemetery, Cudahy.  Rabbi Noah Chertkoff officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions to American Cancer Society appreciated.  
 

Josef Perl 

Josef Perl died April 17, 2022 at the age of 57. Beloved husband of Susan Perl (nee Smeby). Cherished father of Rebecca and Jessica Perl. Loving brother of Rachel Benyamin. Dear uncle of Maytal (Itzik) Aharon, Barack and Maayan Benyamin.  Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends. 

A graveside service was held on April 18 at Agudas Achim Cemetery, Cudahy.  Rabbi Avremi Schapiro officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. 

Memorial contributions made to The Shul or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation appreciated. 
 
Betty Rae Singer 

Betty Rae Singer died on April 14, 2022, at the age of 97. Wife of the late Sheldon Singer; mother of Davey Ann (Philip Marks) Singer, Rebecca (Will) Singer, and George (Joanne) Singer; sister of Nort Bain and Florence Obstfeld; grandmother of six and great-grandmother of ten. She was content, sweet and kind.  

Private burial in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. 

John Viel 

John Viel died April 15, 2022, at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Fredlyn Viel (nee Kruglak). Loving brother of Michael (Kathleen) Viel and Gloria (Lee) Smolen. Dear uncle of Laura (Todd) Beschta, Lisa (Andy) Wielebski, Angela (Randy) Gumieny, Nicholas (Brittany) Lohman, Michele (Jason) David, Christine (Christopher) Erickson and Jonathan Lohman. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends. 

A graveside funeral service was held on April 18 at Mound Zion Cemetery, Brookfield. Rabbi Marc Berkson, Rabbi Cheski Edelman and Cantor David Barash officiated.  Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the charity of your choice appreciated.
