Book Corner: ‘Sorry For Your Loss’ 

 

“Sorry For Your Loss,” by Joanne Levy, published by Orca Books, third grade and up 

This exquisite middle grade novel expertly shares what happens before, during, and after a Jewish funeral. Evie and Oren are relatable characters who cope with the death of a loved ones. This book is sensitive, thoughtful, and respectful to the grieving process. Perfect for adults, too. 

“The Magical Imperfect,” by Chris Baron, published by Feiwel Friends, third grade and up 

Set during the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, this fast-paced, touching novel in verse tells the story of Etan, a boy coping with his mom’s mental illness and his friendship with a girl with a severe skin condition. This book explores Jewish identity, family history, community, and a mysterious Jewish clay. Excellent for reluctant readers. 

Educator and author Liza Wiemer, of Fox Point, has taught in nine of our Milwaukee Jewish religious schools and day schools. Her latest novel, “The Assignment,” is appropriate for ages 12 and up.
