Amy Free Brecher 

Amy Free Brecher died Dec. 5, 2021. She was 67.   

Wife of Kevin Krepski. Dear sister of Martha (Joel Stone) Brecher and Richard Brecher. Further survived by her aunt, Carol Kirsch Fishman; cousins, Melinda (Tom Grabowski) Fishman, Abbie (the late Patrick House) Fishman, Alex (Cal Bowie) Orfinger, and Anne (Stephen) Grollman; nephews, Max Brecher, Finian Brecher and her niece, Isabel Brecher. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends.   

Amy was a very creative woman and a former grant writer at ARC, Special Olympics and Feeding America. She loved music, including playing the piano and recorder, singing in the choir and folk dancing. Amy also loved painting, writing and playing Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble.   

Private funeral services. Memorial donations to Vision Forward appreciated. 

Charles Bristol “Unk”  

Charles Bristol died Nov. 25, 2021, at the age of 88.   

Loving brother of the late Edward (Gloria) Bristol and the late Shirley (the late Bernie) Miller. Dear uncle of Don (Cathy) Bristol, Mark Bristol, Susan (Glenn) Cummins, Lauri (Perry) Streeck, Beth (Fermino) Coimbra and the late Michael (Robert Seletsky) Miller. Further survived by great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.   

Graveside funeral service held Nov. 28 at Mound Zion Cemetery, Brookfield. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions to Temple Menorah or the charity of your choice appreciated. 

Fred Alan Chester 

Fred Alan Chester of Mequon died Nov. 13, 2021. He was 88. 

Fred was born Nov. 19, 1932, and came to Wisconsin from Duluth, Minnesota. Graduated from Riverside High School and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  

Member of Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid. Jewish War Veterans, Horenstein Katz Post 701, post commander and a veterans hospital volunteer driver. Part-time school bus driver, retired 2019, and TV repair, retired 2000. Worked for the University School of Milwaukee. Special interests included football, soccer, classical music, marching bands, opera, attending theater and concerts and world history. 

Survived by loving wife, Jane Chester nee Solomon. Further survived by dear children Amy (Michael) Cohen and Michael I.S. (Patricia) Chester. Loving grandchildren Elizabeth Miller, Ginger (Nathan) Hoeffner, Benjamin (Amy) Chester, Ted (Maggie Aspenson) Cohen, Mitchell (Kendall) Chester, Nolan Cohen and Rayna Cohen. Dear great-grandchildren Xavier Wade Silva and Lennon Cohen 

Place of Burial Spring Hill Cemetery, Nov. 17, 2021. Rabbi Joel Alter and Goodman Bensman assisted the family.  

 
Richard Roffa 

Richard D. Roffa died Dec. 1, 2021, at the age of 68. Preceded in death by his parents, Norman T. and Ruth Roffa. Dear uncle of Blake (Beth) Baron and sister of Lynda (Allan) Baron. Further survived by other relatives and friends.   

Graveside funeral services held Dec. 5 at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery, Milwaukee. Rabbi Jessica Barolsky officiated.  Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice appreciated. 

Michael L. Schwartz 

Michael Louis Schwartz of Madison died Dec. 14, 2021, at the age of 74. Loving father of Scott (Dawn) Schwartz. Proud grandfather of Benjamin and Dylan Schwartz. Dear brother of Robert (Jerri) and Samuel (Shanit) Schwartz. Further survived by his dear nieces and cousins and a network of close friends. Mike so dearly loved his family and had a story to tell about everyone in his clan. 

A graveside service with military honors was held on Dec. 17, 2021, at Second Home Cemetery, Milwaukee. Rabbi Taylor Poslosky officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family.

Freya Teplinsky 

Freya Teplinsky of Northridge, California, died Oct. 10, 2021 

Freya was born in Milwaukee on Sept. 8, 1944, and graduated from Whitefish Bay High School, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and California State University-Northridge.  

She enjoyed time with family, volunteering at Temple Ramat Zion, collecting dolls and bison. She also treasured traveling, especially in her motorhome and camping with her friends from a Jewish camping club.  

Freya is survived by spouse Allan Teplinsky. Freya is further survived her two sons Michael and Danny; their wives Debbie and Renee; her four grandchildren, Devon, Max, Alexis and Courtney; her younger siblings Janis, Jeffrey and Jennifer; as well as their spouses Gary, Barbara and Paul, in addition to many cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. 

Family and community were Freya’s purpose and passion. Her greatest joy was laughing with her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to laugh at herself and her own idiosyncrasies. She found purpose in helping others and had a real passion for animals. Freya found great joy in her Jewish heritage and giving to the Jewish community, dedicating a tremendous amount of time to her synagogue and fundraisers. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Her memory will be cherished eternally. 

Burial was Oct. 14. at Eden Memorial Park with Groman Eden Mortuary in Mission Hills, California.

Sondra Winnik

Sondra Winnik of Bayside died Dec. 4, 2021. She was 100. 

Sondra was born Aug. 29, 1921. Preceded in death by her husband Dr. Donald Winnik and longtime companion Newton Peckarsky. Cherished mother of Dr. Mitchel Winnik (Dr. Jan Fleming), the late Beth (Dr. Michael) Berkson, the late Joel (Barbara)Winnik and Judy Winnik. Loving Grandmother of Dr. Eric Berkson (Dr. Stephanie) Berkson, the late Adam (Daniella) Berkson, Jeff (Kathleen) Berkson, Josh (Stephanie) Berkson, Rachel (William) Yavinsky and Arielle (Jerold Bennett) Winnik. Great-grandmother of Ben Berkson, Dinah Berkson, Jadon Berkson, Kyle Berkson, Emily Berkson, Brennan Berkson, Max Berkson, Leo Berkson, Aaron Berkson, Juliana Yavinsky, Simon Yavinsky, Asher Bennett, Talia Yavinsky. Further survived by Michael (Kari Berkson, son, John Sackett) and other relatives and friends. 

Member Congregation Shalom. Worked as physician office manager. Memorial service held Dec 7, 2021, at Congregation Shalom.
