Liza’s Book corner: ‘Adventure Girl: Dabi Digs in Israel.’

This is our monthly recommendation from local Jewish educator Liza Wiemer …

“Adventure Girl: Dabi Digs in Israel.” Picture book. Written and illustrated by Janice Hechter. Published May 10, 2021 by Alazor Press.

In this lovely picture book, Dabi travels to Israel with her parents to visit family. Because of Dabi’s love for exploration, dirt and adventure, they visit Beit Guvrin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where children are allowed to participate in the archeological dig. There, Dabi unearths an incredible discovery. The beautiful, vibrant, realistic illustrations allow readers to get a taste of that experience and will provide inspiration to learn more about archeology, in particular the discoveries being made in the Holy Land. Adventure Girl is a wonderful gateway to talk about Israel’s historical sites with young readers.

Educator and author Liza Wiemer, of Fox Point, has taught in nine of our Milwaukee Jewish religious schools and day schools. Her latest novel, “The Assignment,” is appropriate for ages 12 and up.
