Join the Harry and Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center’s Tapestry program Taste and Tradition, featuring Caitlin Cullen from Tandem restaurant, on Wednesday, July 14 at 5 p.m. At this event, you will have the opportunity to learn and cook with Cullen, as well as hearing about her mission and commitment to strengthen the future of the youth of Milwaukee’s North Side neighborhoods. “The Nice Little Blonde Girl.” Join the Harry and Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center’s Tapestry program for their July Book Event with Milwaukee author, Linda Frank as she discusses her third novel in the series that has been called the “Jewish Miss Marple” on July 15 at 2 p.m. This is a story of survival based on secrets kept through generations. The plot weaves a modern woman’s saga of solitary resilience with a centuries-old legend of a Jewish heroine who saved a landmark synagogue. For more information visit JCCMilwaukee.org/Tapestry. We Are America 

We are America: The Cultural Programs of the Great Depression will be on July 15 at 7 p.m. Join Betsy Pease, Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Concordia University, to learn about the broader context of the New Deal and Depression-era culture in which artwork of the Works Progress Administration were produced; an era that saw a diverse cross-section of Americans use opportunity to redefine their nation and make claims to a rightful place in it. Reckoning with slavery 

An event related to “How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with History of Slavery Across America” will be on July 27 at 7 p.m. During the Great Depression, the Federal Writers’ Project interviewed formerly enslaved people, marking the first major collection of oral histories about slavery in America. Explore this collection and more, with author Clint Smith, as he discusses his debut work of nonfiction “How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning With the History of Slavery Across America,” a portrait of America as a slave owning nation. Smith will be in conversation with Reggie Jackson of Nurturing Diversity Partners, a Milwaukee-based organization that provides education, training, and consulting services to foster diversity, inclusion, and equity within institutions and communities. Sponsored by the Coalition for Jewish Learning, Jewish Community Relations Council, Marquette University Department of History and Tikkun Ha-Ir. In Partnership with Nurturing Diversity Partners. Dignity Grows  

Join Women’s Philanthropy of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation on Aug. 11 for an evening of inspiration as they introduce Dignity Grows, an initiative created to empower women and girls by providing feminine hygiene products to those in need. State Senator Melissa Agard will speak about the Bipartisan Legislation she introduced to exempt these products from State Sales Tax. Exact time and location to be determined.
