Lorraine Greenberg 

Lorraine Greenberg, born in Milwaukee on May 19, 1931, died on April 6, 2021.  

She is survived by daughters Lisa (Howard) Luber and Sara (Dale Grabois) Puchinsky; her grandchildren Rachel, Adam, Danny, Temira, and her great-grandchildren, twins Jacob and Jordyn. Lorriane attended Washington High School and went on to the University of Wisconsin. She was a founding member of Congregation Shalom and held the office of Choir Director there. As an occupation, she was a music teacher, community theater director, and choir director. She was buried at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Memorial contributions can be sent to The Wolf Family Music Fund or Congregation Shalom. 

Gary I. Kastel 

Gary I. Kastel died on April 28, 2021, at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Ilana Kastel (nee Axelrad). Cherished father of Bonnie Kastel and Tzuriel (Aliza) Kastel. Loving grandfather of Efraim (Avigail), Shlomo, Naftuli (Malka Charna), Yehuda, Nachum, Yisroel Meir, Chaya and Yocheved Kastel. Dear great-grandfather of Chaya, Yaakov Aharon, Hadassah and Nechama Kastel. Fond brother of Howard (Joan) Kastel and Gwen (Donald) Packard. Further survived by other loving relatives and many dear friends. Graveside services held on April 29 at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery, Milwaukee. Rabbi Benzion Twerski officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to Congregation Beth Jehudah or Milwaukee Kollel appreciated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. 

Phyllis E. Lensky 

Phyllis E. Lensky (nee Kaplan), beloved wife of the late Harry Lensky, has died. Cherished mother of Rabbi Melech (Mark) Lensky (Judith), Milwaukee, and Mrs. Roberta Newman (Marvin), Toronto, Canada. Proud grandmother of Tamar Bitran (Shmuel), Lakewood, New Jersey; Menachem Lensky, Los Angeles, California; Dalia Newman, Jerusalem, Israel; Leora Silverman (Binyamin), Toronto, Canada; Chava Miriam Millen (Yakov), Jerusalem, Israel; Sammy Newman, Ramat Beit Shemesh, Israel; Penina Loskove (Asher), Lakewood, New Jersey; Akiva Newman, Toronto, Canada; Yitzchak Lensky, Milwaukee and Staten Island, New York; and great-grandmother of Yehuda Bitran, Chaim Ozer Bitran, Ester Liba Bitran, Mordechai Leib Millen, Meir Bitran, Mordechai Ephraim Loskove, Mordechai Yom Tov Bitran, and Moshe Millen. Dear sister of Edith Kaplan, San Francisco, California. A funeral service was held on May 3, 2021, at Congregation Anshe Sfard Khillat Torah with burial at Mound Zion Cemetery. Rabbi Wes Kalmar and Rabbi Levi Emmer officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial donations to Congregation Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah, Jewish Home and Care Center Foundation or Friends of Yad Sarah appreciated. 

Rabbi Yitzchok Lowenbraun 

Rabbi Yitzchok Lowenbraun, of Baltimore died on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the age of 71. He is survived by his loving children, Rabbi Yosef (Hadassah) Lowenbraun, Shulamis (Nechemia) Weinreb, Utchie (Benzion) Horowitz, Shoshana Lowenbraun, Shloime (Leah) Lowenbraun, and Toby (Ephriam) Molinski, brothers, Benzion “Barney” (Norma) Lowenbraun, and Shloime (Tova) Lowenbraun; grandchildren, Menachem (Thaveli), Shloime (Chayala) , Devorah (Ushy), Moishe, Yanky, Yehuda Leib, Shea, Arelah, Shaya, Yosef Tzvi, Malky, Leah, Shira, Heshela, Chany, Shloime, Michel, Chaim Meyer, Yehuda, Leib, Nechama, Arelah, Leah, Mimi, and Toby, and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Miriam Lowenbraun (nee Twerski), and parents, Yoseph and Yenta Lowenbraun. Services were held in Baltimore on April 29th. Interment took place April 29 at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery, Milwaukee with Rabbi Benzion Twerski officiating. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Dr. Sofya Rempel (Nee Guterz) 

Dr. Sofya Rempel (Nee Guterz) died on April 17, 2021, at the age of 93. Cherished mother of Josef (Irina) and Anatoliy (Helen) Rempel. Proud grandmother of Jane, Boris, Aaron and Hannah Rempel. Graveside services held on April 18, 2021, at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery with Rabbi Yaakov Elman officiating. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay assisted the family. Martin B. Shapiro 

Martin B. Shapiro died on April 11, 2021, at the age of 73.  Cherished son of Helen (nee Hicks) and the late Isadore Shapiro. Loving brother of Jeffrey Shapiro; uncle of Jen (William) Doss and Michael Washburn; and great-uncle of Skyler, Madeline and Isabella Doss. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Private burial at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice appreciated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. 

Ilene Wasserman 

Ilene Wasserman (nee Fishbein) died unexpectedly on May 2, 2021, at the age of 71 after briefly enduring the effects of cancer treatment. Beloved wife of Jeffrey for 47 years, devoted mother of Seth, dearest sister of Bobbi Fishbein, and cherished daughter of the late Lorraine and Eldred Fishbein. Also survived by special grand-dog, Miller, as well as many loving relatives and friends. Ilene graduated from John Marshall High School and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She had a long, successful career in her field, working primarily for Jewish organizations. In addition to her career, Ilene was a devoted wife and mother, a cherished sister, and second Mom to many of Seth’s friends. She always hosted all the holidays and family simchas and loved every minute. In her spare time, she spent many hours volunteering. She was a 25-year board member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and their “baking brigade.” She volunteered at the Jewish Community Pantry and served as an officer of the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale. Ilene loved knitting hats and scarves for several charitable organizations. Ilene’s sunny smile and cheery disposition are already missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Jewish Community Pantry, the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale, or the charity of your choice. Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside service was held on May 5, 2021.  Rabbi Steve Adams and Cantor Richard Newman officiated.  Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. A celebration of Ilene’s life will be announced when it is safe to gather.
