National Council of Jewish Women celebrates anniversary, Bernstein, Avner 

 

The National Council of Jewish Women Milwaukee Section is continuing its 125th anniversary celebration with an Installation and Awards Program, to be held virtually on Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m. The community is invited to attend. For more information, go to NcjwMke.org.   

Andrea Bernstein, associate director of the local Jewish Community Relations Council, will receive the NCJW Milwaukee Sections Hannah G. Solomon Award. This award is presented biannually to a person who has helped to change and expand the role of others in vital areas of community life, and whose leadership has motivated others to fight for change.

Bernstein has been a member of NCJW’s board for the past eight years, serving as co-president and president for four of those years. She has demonstrated her commitment to the ideals of NCJW through her work at the Jewish Community Relations Council of Milwaukee Jewish Federation with Hours Against Hate and Listening Library, according to a news release. 

Sami Stein Avner will receive NCJW Milwaukee’s Barbara Stein Building Bridges Award. This award honors those who demonstrate talent and dedication in building links among different agencies, organizations and people. Avner has been a board member of NCJW for several years and is the executive director of Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee.  

NCJW Milwaukee will present its emerging leader award to two of its up-and-coming section leaders, Genina Berger and Hope Liu, according to the release.  Both women have been active board members, helping to develop, plan and execute programs.
