New program for young adults is from Hillel Milwaukee

Hillel Milwaukee has launched a program for young adults, called Hillel Hiya.

Though Hillels around the nation typically see many undergraduates, Hillel Hiya is aimed at graduate students and young adults.

“We recognize that this is a need in our community,” Hillel Milwaukee Executive Director Deb Fendrich said. “We know that many young adults and grad students find themselves at home in Milwaukee.”

To take advantage of the relationship that Hillel Milwaukee already has with students, the organization invites second-semester seniors to join Hillel Hiya.

Since Hillel Hiya was launched in Fall 2020, activities have included a Hillel Hiya Shabbat and a cocktail-making class. A task force made plans for the launch last summer.

To date, the program has engaged about 60 young adults. The goal for the next academic year is 75, Fendrich said.

There’s no fee to join Hillel Hiya. Contact Director of Student Life Anna Goldstein at Anna@HillelMke.org.
