An important message from Miryam Rosenzweig

In March 2019, my husband and I moved to Milwaukee. We chose Milwaukee because we wanted to live in and be part of a real community. One in which we are interdependent, and each part of the community is vital to its strength. One year to the day that I began working at the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, our city began shutting down due to the pandemic, and the world as we had known it changed for us all.

In April, we noted that future generations will measure how our community responded to this time. They will measure the character of our Milwaukee Jewish community by the 2,000-year-old Talmudic mandate Kol yisrael arevim zeh bazeh, all Jews are responsible for one another. Today, I can say that while these last nine months have been so challenging and often heartbreaking, it has also been a privilege to watch my chosen community come together, to ensure we come through this together.

I have been inspired by the work of the many Jewish communal professionals, working every day to support, nourish, inspire, educate and comfort our community. I’ve watched my colleagues adapt and work with an agility that has allowed them to serve so many more in need.

I have been inspired by our community’s generous philanthropy. So many community members have raised their hand and said hineini – Here I am” and invested to ensure that Milwaukee’s Jewish institutions can care for us during and beyond the pandemic.

I am proud that the Federation is representing the collective will and effort to stabilize Jewish Milwaukee. However, we can only do so if we have the funding to impact the many needs of individuals and institutions.

I am proud to be a member of the Milwaukee Jewish community and feel privileged to increase our family contribution to our Federation’s 2021 Annual Campaign.

Will you join me? To give to the 2021 Annual Campaign, please visit MilwaukeeJewish.org/Give or call 414-390-5700.

During these extraordinary times, many people find themselves needing help from our community for the first time in their lives. You can get support with compassion and dignity. Please contact Jewish Family Services’ JHelp program at 414-390-5800 or visit MilwaukeeJewish.org/HereForYou

I know that future generations will look at us with pride; together, we are fulfilling the mandate. Kol yisrael arevim zeh bazeh, all Jews are responsible for one another.
