JCC hosts candle lightings

The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay is holding community candle lightings for Chanukah, Dec. 10-17. Candle lightings will be held at 5:30 p.m., except for Friday, Dec. 11, when it will be at 4:30 p.m.

For more information about where or how to see the lightings, join JCC’s Chanukah Facebook group. This holiday Facebook group is a passport to eight days of Chanukah activities and fun from agencies and organizations throughout the community, according to the JCC.

“In the interest of community health and government recommendations, we are not encouraging public gatherings during the holidays,” said Rabbi Shari Shamah, Community Services and Program Director for the JCC.

You will be able to stay socially connected while physically distant this Chanukah, according to the JCC.

JCC offers Chanukah events for kids, adults

The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay is hosting at least two events for Chanukah – one for kids and one for adults.

The JCC’s “PJ Our Way” is also holding a Chanukah event for 9- to 13year-olds on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 4-6 p.m. The free event will feature a Minecraft Chanukah scavenger hunt, games and menorah building, all in Minecraft.  Facilitated by Lost Tribe eSports. To play you need to use a PC, Mac or Chromebook and have Minecraft Java version. Questions and RSVP to SShamah@JccMilwaukee.org.

The JCC offers virtual cooking classes, with Milwaukee restaurant chefs. On Dec. 9, the JCC is offering a Chanukah class with Shully’s Cuisine and Events. The dish will be an award-winning Chanukah meal – braised beef brisket, potato latkes, and harissa glazed carrots. Individual classes are $10 for JCC members or $15 for others in the community.
