Falafel Guys reports changed but steady business

THIENSVILLE — The Falafel Guys, an Israeli-owned company, reports it has maintained a steady business despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The business closed its brick and mortar location at 105 W. Freistadt Road in Thiensville to indoor dining following the state’s Safer at Home order in March, but it has not re-opened to indoor dining.

Instead, owners Ron – from Israel – and Chrissy Stroli and staff are serving customers via their outdoor dining area, curbside delivery, home delivery through Door Dash and Uber Eats, and their food truck. The food is not kosher.

The truck parks on East Silver Spring Drive twice a week. It has also been a staple for five years along Downer Avenue, though it is facing a possibility of having to move to another location in the area if a food truck ban on the street is approved by the Milwaukee Common Council.

We have more customers now that only eat by us because we are safe. Some restaurants re-opened and they had staff get sick, and they got sick, and they had to shut down again,” Ron Strolli said recently. “We wear masks when we go out to give the customers their food, while taking customers orders, all the staff in kitchen wear masks,” he added.

Things have been going so well, Ron said, that the business, which is now in its sixth year, has been hiring.

Some of the most popular items on the menu include shakshuka, and the eggplant sandwich, which was named one of in Milwaukee’s top sandwiches.
