JCC Rainbow Day Camp reopens after staff member diagnosis

The Albert & Ann Deshur JCC Rainbow Day Camp in Fredonia reopened this morning, after it closed Monday, July 6 because a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, according to a spokesman.

“We have worked actively with the local Health Department and are confident that the actions we’ve taken – and the limited exposure to our campers and staff – ensure a safe environment for our camp community,” wrote Director Lenny Kass, in a letter to families. “The Health Department has provided a clear and detailed evaluation to understand the risk and exposure at camp, and fully supports our choice to return to full service.

The staff member, who is doing well, served in a support function and did not have any direct contact with campers or program staff in the course of their work at Fredonia, according to the letter. The program is organized in smaller group sites to limit exposure. Deep cleaning is among the strategies at the camp.

The JCC Rainbow Day Camp is a program of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.
